3 Steps to Finding Your Purpose!
Photo: mindmillion.com

In response to that question, I can hear the collective sigh and a resounding H-E-Double Hockey Sticks NO coming from the majority of you!  And then there is that small group of folks who know they’ve found their higher calling in life, they believe they are doing exactly what they were born to do.  If you have the priceless membership card to this select group, congratulations!  If not, no worries, I have 3 steps which will put you on the path to your purpose.

I chose an outrageous number such as $100,000,000 because I knew it would really get you thinking freely.  When I first did this exercise with self, I thought about one million dollars but then realized it wouldn’t be enough.  I envisioned my dream homes, the amount of charity I intend to donate, the foundation I plan to establish, start-up businesses I aspire to fund, etc. and realized I’d be a little short.
What would you do if you won $100,000,000.00?  After the vacations, after the material purchases, after clearing your debt, after donating to your favorite charities, etc.  What would you do?  If you were independently wealthy and had no need to work to maintain your standard of living, what would you do?  As I mentioned earlier, some of you can answer as quickly as the time it takes you to snap your fingers and others need a little more time.  Many of you may say, “I have no idea, I never really took time to think about it because I never thought it was possible.”  That too is understandable since I believe settling for what life offers you is a learned response.  We’ve seen so many people come before us with big dreams and aspirations and we’ve watched as they have allowed the light in their eyes to dwindle.  And at some point, consciously or subconsciously, we said, “oh well, I guess this is the way it has to be for me too.”  It is important to recognize this learned philosophy and actively make the decision not to settle.  Following are 3 steps I know will position you on the path toward finding your purpose.  You must be willing to:

1.  Ask the Questions
Why am I here?  Some people are afraid to ask this question for fear that not receiving an answer may mean they really have no  purpose.  Everyone has a purpose!
What do I want out of my life experience?  We must inspect what we expect because that’s exactly what we get!
Who am I around and what am I allowing them to do to me?  As it has always been said, birds of a feather flock together.  We become like those we hang around most so either they are adapting to your stride or are causing you to adapt to theirs.  “If you can’t change your friends, then you’ve got to change your friends.”

2.  Listen Intently for the Answers
Sometimes its a shout and others its a far off whisper.  Les Brown says, “if you don’t act on life, often life will act on you.”  That layoff from the job may be an opportunity to do your own thing disguised as a problem.  I believe we were given 2 ears and 1 mouth that we may listen twice as much as we speak.  And the beautiful thing about our creation is that we not only hear with our ears, we “hear” with our other senses as well.  Choose to listen!

3.  Take Action as if Your Life Depends on it…Because it Does!
John Greenleaf Whittier phrased it perfectly, “the saddest words of tongue or pen are ‘it might have been.'”  Our energy beings live on forever, I’m sure you learned, as I did, energy is neither created nor destroyed.  However, we only get one shot in this physical apparatus you call your body so once you’ve asked the challenging questions and listened for the proper answers the logical next step is to do something with your new found state of enlightenment.  Knowledge without application changes nothing, all power exists in applied knowledge!

So it’s not about the $100,000,000.00, it’s never really about the money.  Money is just a means to an end. In order to keep a roof over your head, it takes money.  To visit family in another state or country, it takes money.  Building the church or youth center, require money.  Once you find your purpose I have no doubt it will also serve as your passion. You must fuel your passion as you fuel your vehicle, neither runs on air and both have a price tag.

Fulfill Your Purpose and Fuel Your Passion!  Life is Giving You the Green Light!  GO!

Aginah, I am humbled and honored to be mentioned in the same sentence with those personal development greats. They are all mentors of mine as well, actually had a few opportunities to meet Les Brown and attended a live Tony Robbins event (I'd encourage you to do the same, truly life-changing!)! You and anyone who asks for and/or supports the information we share are extremely important in our development! Jim Rohn explains this perfectly when he says, "when I strive to make it more clear for you, I make it more clear for myself!" Don't hesitate to let me know how I can assist you, I'm committed to your success!

please just keep sending the inspiration my way and any links you may have to post. I want to keep the conversation going and the excitement rolling. My saying right now is "Stop Making Excuses, Start making choices". Read that somewhere and its sticking…I've been reading and listening to Tony Robbins for awhile. Please let me know if anything is coming to town or if you have any recommended readings…

Eugene, you are so inspiring. I've always been one to read inspirational and self-improvement literature, lately Eckhart Tolle and Anthony Robbins, but let me tell you, you got the skills to motivate just as well as these guys.. indeed. Les Brown, Dr. Wayne Dryer, etc. etc. You got it. I'm going to take the energy you gave me and use it. For real!! I'm cuttin' and pastin' that comment and puting it on my inspiration board. Keep the inspiration coming.
