Do You Have Great Joy in Your Life?

by Eugene on April 7, 2011

A couple days ago I had a great text conversation with a friend and I thought I’d share it with you now!  She posed this question to me:

Do you think you have great joy in your life?

Without hesitation, my response was, “I have great joy in my life, I’ve felt an inner happiness in and with my life for a long time!”

She then asked,

“What do you think brings or provides you with the greatest joy?”

Once again with no hesitation, I started in, “My love of life!”  I broke that down into 3 daily activities, “…everyday I find things for which I’m grateful, things that amaze me, and things to learn.”

I encourage you to participate in these three daily activities as well!  Let’s look at each one a little closer:

1. Everyday Cultivate an Attitude of Gratitude!

I talk about this often because it’s so vitally important to a happy, healthy life!  Just saying the words “Thank You!” will make you smile!  Try it now, stop reading and utter these words out loud…”Thank You!”  You may ask yourself, “well what am I thankful for?”  Great question!  You have loads for which to be thankful!  I’ll make it plain for you, the fact that you are reading this post means you’re alive and, if nothing else I’m sure you’d agree, that IS something for which to be thankful!  Also if you’re reading this, you have internet access, a computer, and what about your ability to read!  Rough estimates from 2002 suggested that more than 867 million adults worldwide are unable to read.  This number doesn’t include children.  We haven’t begun to consider your house, apartment, vehicle, family, clothes, friends, the trees, mountains, stars, sun, moon, and many more items!  Every morning as soon as you open your eyes, say “Thank You for the opportunity to live another day!”

2. Everyday Find Amazement!

Scripture says, “…and he that seeketh, findeth.”  Said another way, you will find whatever you look for!  Amazing things are all around you and in many cases, inside you.  Every once in awhile I think about the human body and all the amazing functions it performs without a person’s active involvement.  Think about your heart, with the exception of someone who may have suffered cardiac arrest, from the time it started beating it hasn’t taken a break.  And when was the last time you took an active role in making your heart beat?  Amazing!

3. Everyday, Learn!

The day you decide to stop learning is the day you die, however you may not get buried for many years to come.  It was Oliver Wendell Holmes who said, “the mind, once expanded to the dimensions of larger ideas, never returns to its original size.”  I love to learn!  I love helping others learn!  And it’s not about learning just for the sake of learning, it’s about learning something which will put me in a better position to perform a task.  Knowledge isn’t power, APPLIED knowledge is power!  Think back to a time when you decided to learn something new.  Do you remember the feeling?  Initially you may have been a little unsure  and as you learned and applied that knowledge your confidence grew.  Confidence feeds competence which fuels more confidence and the cycle continues!  And also you sometimes have to unlearn disempowering habits and thought patterns in order to create space for, as Snapple beverage’s most recent ad campaigns suggest, better stuff.

So remember, everyday identify things for which to be grateful, discover the amazing, and expand your mind!

Life is Giving You the Green Light!

It is so refreshing to read your words of wisdom! I am so delighted for your positive spirit. It is all about having an attitude of gratitude! You are certainly correct when you said that upon waking up today, I was so excited to be apart of it and I did thank God today for it! Keep it Coming!
