Align Your Mind and Shine!

Mind PicYour attitude determines your altitude…I’m sure you’ve heard it.  Your mind-sight is more important than your eyesight…One of my favorites.  Everything created by a human-being was first made in the mind before being made real.  So often we focus on the physical “how-to” neglecting the fact that our mental alignment and congruence are initially more important than the actual skill necessary to accomplish a goal.  While coaching youth basketball, I’m constantly reminding players that basketball is, as is every other game of life,  a mental game first.  It’s what’s happening in your mind which determines what will happen in your world, on the court, on the field, in the classroom, in your household, etc.  So, as the title suggests, Align Your Mind and Shine!

There are 3 main ways to align your mind: People, Places, and Things!

People:

Who are you allowing to speak into your life?  With whom are you associating on a daily basis?  They say we’re the combined average of those we hang with the most.  Our parents knew as we were growing up, I’m sure you heard it too, “birds of a feather flock…”  And although that was sage advice for us as we were growing up, it remains true all throughout our lives!  Money isn’t the only litmus test, it just happens to be an easy one to measure.  If you are the person in the group making the most money, it’s probably time to get a new group.  We must get around people who cause us to stretch our vision of what’s possible for our lives.

Places:

I’m reminded of a quote from Dr. Seuss’s Oh the Places You’ll Go,
“Oh the places you’ll go, there’s fun to be done!
There are points to be scored.  There are games to be won.
And the magical things you can do with that ball
Will make you the winning-est winner of all.”

The places we go and the experiences we experience also serve to expand our mind.  Visit the dream homes, test drive the dream cars, try on the high-end jewelry and clothing.  The subconscious doesn’t know the difference between real and not-real-yet so when we “test” these items or give ourselves these experiences they feel real so our subconscious goes to work to make them real.

Things:

The things we read and listen to will have a major impact on where we end up 5 years from now.  I say all the time that what goes in is the only thing that can come out.  Negative in, negative out.  In the same vein, positive in, positive out.  I first got introduced to the concept of personal development about 12 years ago and it has completely altered my life.  Books such as Think and Grow Rich, Rich Dad Poor Dad, Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway, What Are YOU Waiting For?, Awaken the Giant Within, It’s Not Over Until You Win!, and a host of others are must-haves in your library.  Seminars are also vital to our personal development.  There was a time in my life I would have thought it crazy to “spend” money going to listen to someone talk but I quickly came to know the power of “investing” in my mind.  Jim Rohn phrases it well, “Never begrudge the money you  spend on your own education.”  And I like the way Ben Franklin puts it, “Pour your purse into your mind and your mind will pour back into your purse.”

So in closing, get around some people who are playing life at a higher level and who want to see you win!  Increase the magnitude and frequency of positive experiences!  And flood your mind with uplifting and empowering information daily!  Align Your Mind and Shine!

Life is Giving You the Green Light!

GO!
